Nader Sadek is a unique extreme metal super-group named in the name of an Egyptian, that stands behind all of this. In the past, Nader worked with Mayhem and Sunn O))) and created stage designs and costumes. All that he is doing isn’t similar with the art of the others. He created the dream-team from his teenage mind in face of the Rune 'Blasphemer' Eriksen [Guitar, ex-Mayhem, ex-Ava Inferi, Aura Noir], Flo Mounier [Drums Cryptopsy], Travis Ryan [Vocals, Cattle Decapitation], Marcin Rygel [Bass guitar, Decapitated], and shook the heavy metal world with their insanity.

We asked him about the creating last album "The Malefic: Chapter III" and also a couple other questions.

So, the first question is about "The Malefic: Chapter III". Tell us about this record, main conception, idea behind the tracks.

Malefic : Chapter 3 is the third and last chpater of a story of fantasy-based fiction that I wrote, which revolves around a man desperate to free souls from limbo and allow them to get to their respective final destinations and respective judgments. His journey to attain such power corrupts him and he ends up condemning all to eternal hell. In chapter 3, we find him dwelling, with hubris, paranoia, and remorse that is result of his own damnation and the damning of all the souls.

What was the most challenging in creating last album?

Writing the lyrics and creating patterns of the singing, was the a huge challenge, it was very intimidating, yet, i have a very clear idea of what i want myself to hear so, i try to made it so i would love it, and that fo course is not an easy task. Especally writing lyrics, you get a little insecure about wheather a certain part will benefit form having a guitar solo or should it have more vocals, when creating the patterns i’m looking at the structure of the vocals themselves, would they work in a rhthmic fashion without the music? It needs to be that powerful. Wheather I achieved that is relative to the listener.

Tell us about cover art of "The Malefic: Chapter III". This picture painted by you?

Yes, I painted it. It’s the protagonist of the story, in his days after his twisted and dark experience, contemplating and trying to come to terms with his doings, he lays in a dark cave in which souls are swimming in a river, he has his back to the light from above, as a gesture that there will never be hope.

How the process of the songwriting is going in case of your project? Is it about you bringing all music to the guys and they're playing it in the studio, or is it about you bringing them the ideas of songs, and you’re rehearse stuff? Also what about lyrics - they're all yours till the last letter, or is it a collective work? Tell us about that process.

It has worked this way with certain songs, and that could happen again, where I either present a full composition or suggest a riff to "bloom" into a full song. Most of the songs are Rune and Flo jammign together as well, so its prety different from song to song. On this new one it was my first time to write and compose the phrasing of the lyrics.

What is about recording process? Is it difficult to all of you? Have you recorded your stuff sitting down in one studio, or some parts were taken in other places, without other band members? Nader, have you been in the studio when recordings were made, no matter is that "In The Flesh" or "The Malefic: Chapter III"?

The musicans like to challenge and push themselves to do something they haven’t done before, so it’s not always easy.

You have so many great musicians in the lineup. That fact made your musical project very specific and unique, I think. How did you collaborate with such icons in the genre? Do you have fulltime part of lineup and session part, or they’re all session musicians?

I always think back to my teenage years when I really listened very intensely to this stuff, I created this "fantasy" bands in my head, it was intresting to me the idea of colliding worlds what is a black metal guitairst hooked up with a canadian hyper blast techinical drummer, what would it create? What would be it’s story? As I grew older I saw an oppurtunity to actually make it happen, i’ve got members of Sepultura and Death, with Mayhem, Cattle Decapitation, and Decapitated. All of which are song writers, which was important. I love all those bands so having an organic mixture of it would proably sound just as good, if maybe not even more intresting (I hope).

Question adressed to Flo Mounier: Hi Flo! Your work on latest Nader’s album is one of your greatest appearances in your discography. Can you tell us about your experience in working with Nader Sadek. Is there any difference from Cryptopsy in working with Nader Sadek?

Thank you for the kind words man! Working with Nader has always been a fun process do to the fact that what we are trying to create is something that has never really been done before. What I mean is combining elements of very different metal styles together with an artistic approach and a purpose.

Since we have been doing this for a while now more and more pieces are starting to fit. It seems that playing off of our differences creates a certain vibe that is cool and refreshing. So all and all its been quite fun and interesting.

With Cryptopsy there is a bit less creativity involved since people expect a certain sound and feel from us. Both to me though remain fun and challenging, which I think should be the point of working and creating music.

Question adressed to Rune Eriksen: Hello Rune! I’m big fan of your music. Mayhem’s "Ordo ad Chao" made by you will be no.1 album in metal till the end for me. And the question is: Is it hard to play for Nader? Was it necessary to improve your skills before rehearals/studio recordings? What are the guitar tunings for "The Malefic: Chapter III"?

Thanks for the words man, much appreciated. As regarding to if the material is hard to play or not, yeah some of the stuff on "In The Flesh" was a bit complicated. Or maybe different and/or unusual are better words for it. This was due to Steve (Tucker) and his Morbid Angel inspired riffs which had some weird timings etc to them. But other than that, the material is mostly within my own "comfort zone", as I am largely responsible for the material. By "comfort zone" I mean, within the boundaries of my own skills and technique. Not that it’s easy to play, far from it, it’s just done with my twist to it… to everyone else’s (meaning Flo´s) despair perhaps.

As with every release im participating on or writing for, I always come to the studio with a clear mind on what to do, so mental practice is more than sufficient for me.

The EP`s, both "In The Flesh" and "The Malefic" are tuned in D.

Question for Martin Rygel: Hi Martin! Your bass parts’re sounding great on "The Malefic: Chapter III". How much time did you spent in recording your parts? What was the most challenging for you in the process of creating this album? What tracks were recorded by you?

I think I recorded my bass parts during one evening. Nader sent me the tracks and I sent him back finished bass tracks by the end of the day. I only recorded 2 songs: Entropy Eternal and Descent. The most challenging part of the recording definitely wasn't laying down the bass tracks. I think the most difficult part for me was mixing the drums, toms in particular. I have very limited experience in that matter and the whole process was very challenging. The final result is ok, but I'm already sure the next record will sound much better.

Question for Travis Ryan: Greetings, Ryan. Your vocal on this record is sick as f*ck. So deep and low, that is great and brutal! Those high parts in "Decent" were recorded by you?

Thanks! Martin actually recorded that at my house. I wanted a really dark, gravely sound akin to some of my favorite doomy bands like Shape of Despair or Evoken. That was my minor inspiration at least. It’s a style I am already familiar with doing and I felt that it fit the atmosphere. Rune and Flo had the idea of me throwing some of the more melodic high vocals I've been doing on the last couple Cattle Decapitation releases so I entertained that idea to great results, I feel.

And the rest of the questions for you, Nader. Is there any upcoming shows or tours in your schedule? People sure won’t miss such piece of art. It would be great to see you on summer metal festivals.

Yes, we are planning a VERY special tour, which starts with Neurotic Death Fest and in Egypt, which is very special as no other band that plays this music has ever played there by an international act.

You're doing your stuff in a very specific way, for example, as H.R. Giger did. It is the next level in art. Who or what inspires you?

Nature, women, cats, random things I guess, and the endless library that is my mind, which harbors 100s of metal records, but i make it so my influences are so deep in my subconscious, I’m actually not influnced by any modern art... I make things that my 16 year old me would be crazy about. I try to think of his needs and desires, and I obey it, I owe it to him.

How far you can go with self-destruction in your art?

I am commited to my art, no idea is too small or too big, If it makes sense in my head, it’s going to happen. This is how i’ve always done things, I don’t compromise.

Tell us about the stage concept of the "Living Flesh" dvd. What represents all those installations? Why you and vocalist wearing such scary wigs? Why drumset is standing in the crowd? (this is really cool)

The idea is to present the audience, with a new experience of viewing a show. in living flesh, I put objects from the music videos I directed, along with a few more things, I want the show to be larger than life, and so I make it more mysterious, Carmen and I were wearing masks, Steve was wearing a wig, I still don’t know why he made that decision.

Flo being in front, has alot to do with the concept of the album, in a way I view this band as vessel or a vehicle, and in the modern days vehicles are moved by engines running on petroleum, in a car for instance, which is petroleums biggest product, the engine is always situated in front, and drummers, espeially in metal are the "engine" so he was put in front, while the wheels are on the side and the driver is in the back

Your top-5 albums (not necessary metal records).

                    1. First 4 deicide albums (I cant seperate them their one big album to me.)

                    2. Necrophagist - Epitaph

                    3. Blut Aus Nord - Memorium II

                    4. Secret Window OST (Philip Glass)

Nader, it was very pleasant to do an interview with you and your band. You all are unique, one of a kind artists, especially you for your ideas and the way you're create art, Nader!

No problem my friend! Im so glad to hear that we have fans in Russia! Wish we could do something there!

                    Pleasures all mine! Cheers!
