Daray Dimmu Borgir / Vesania / Hunter

"New Year’s Eve is one of the largest global celebrations around the world. Usually there is a huge party. We try to rent a small bar or restaurant only for us which means for my bandmates from Vesania and Hunter plus our friends. There is a lot of alcohol specials and food made by ourselves. I'm not dancing, I hate that . I'm just sitting, drinking, eating and talking about music. Some of my friends experience a sense of nostalgia as they reflect on the events that took place in their lives in the past 12 months. Me and my bandmates start thinking about New Year’s plans and resolutions at this time of the year. As the clock strikes midnight into New Year’s Day, we exchanging hugs, kisses, and wish each other a “Happy New Year”. We do fireworks show. Last year I burned my jacket . This year I'm gonna stay at my home because I have 3 months old kid. I guess will do some small party. All the best for a smashing 2015."

                    Tomy Chiu (Evocation)

Happy New Year! To all metal head in the world! We are Evocation from Hong Kong! This new year's eve will be so special, it is because we will perform in Shenzhen Midi festival on that day! Let's count down together! And good luck to you all!

Florian “Magnus” Maier (Dark Fortress / Alkaloid)

We usually stay indoors because all the mad people in town at that time of year are given explosives to run amok with. Some years, Rotterdam looks like a war zone on NY's Eve with 24 hours of non-stop fireworks, a horizon exploding in all colors, and debris mountains a meter high the next day. So we go for excessive orgies of home-cooked food and, if at all possible, other forms of mind expansion in the privacy of our own homes.

Paul Allender (ex- Cradle Of Filth / White Empress)

When its time for the year to end and a new one is on the horizon I like to sit down with a glass of red wine and think about the years accomplishments or fails before going out and getting hideously drunk and causing havoc with my metal brothers and sisters lol!

Alex Krull (Leaves' Eyes / Atrocity)

Last year we went to the Austrian mountains to celebrate New Year together with friends and family. Awesome night in a lonely wood house in the forest which looked like the typical "Evil Dead" Horror movie film set, no joke haha. This year we will celebrate at Mastersound Studio as we are in the middle of the production of the new Leaves' Eyes record, there's no time left for day offs! No rest for the wicked!

                    Incubus (Inquisition)

After a long year of touring, meeting new comrades and acquaintances; and many interesting experiences. I'm looking foreword to a small celebration with close friends to invoke the coming year. Hail Satan!

                    Xen (Ne Obliviscaris)

My most interesting experience in bringing in the New Year was when I was a teenager living in Papua New Guinea, many years ago...it was unlike anything I'd seen. In Australia we generally celebrate with fireworks and loud messy gatherings, but in PNG it was whole different world, there's a collective oneness; families were gathered from the local villages, the men were singing and dancing in their traditional dress, faces painted and adorned with large bone piercings, all stamping their feet in unison with weapons raised, the women then joined them in chorus like banshees wailing at the moon...all against a backdrop of a massive bonfire. The vibe was something out of an end of days type movie, you felt the raw, passionate energy. So if you want culture and authenticity, a tribal experience will never be forgotten. It's unified, it's real, and it's primal.

                    Job Bos (Satyricon)

The funniest new year I experienced wasn't that funny on that night itself but rather thinking about it now. It was 2 years ago and we were having a party with some good friends. Obviously there was quite some alcohol involved...We had some good food lying around and after dinner there were some fish leftovers...In my drunk state of mind I thought it would be a great idea to combine that fish with some beers which resulted in me being completely sick even before 12 'o clock....I guess you can imagine what happened..At least I got to see the fireworks but that was basically it A more ideal way of celebrating new years eve would be a relaxed evening with my girlfriend/friends/band at the fireplace with some good wines, good food and some cold beers and just have a nice and relaxed evening. But it really depends on my mood how I want to celebrate new years eve, sometimes a good party could be nice but sometimes you just want a nice and cosy evening I guess..

                    Alvaro Lillo (Watain)

                    Alvaro Lillo (Watain)

welll...now im in Chile my home country, for first tme in 10 years...and yes I know how to celebrate new year...with all hate, destruction and our master Satan !!!

                    Øyvind Bolt Strönen Johannesen (Trollfest)

Trollfest celebrating New Year’s! Well we eat a Christian and there is alcohol, alcohol and maybe a bit of alcohol. Usually we celebrate with different peeps. Last year I went to a friends house, and got pretty damn drunk. There were about 10 guitarists there so we decided to make a song where everyone made a short guitar solo. A bit like “We are the world” just with metal guys playing guitar instead of a bunch of pop-stars singing. Anyways, when I were about to play, I was so drunk it sounded like shit. It didn’t help either that some others put electricity on the guitar strings so I was electrified during the solo. After that, I passed out (obviously) and that was that. Wonder if someone have that song…. The perfect New years? Play a show in Russia! I heard you got some good vodka there!

                    Linus Klausenitzer (Alkaloid / Obscura)

I recently read about a local metal festival on New Year's Eve that will be celebrated on a ship. It's a one night metal cruise in the center of Bavaria! Standing on stage and celebrating metal music with other metal fans while watching the fireworks refecting on a river sounds extremely inviting to me.

                    Cadaveria (Cadaveria)

In these last years I became quite allergic to festivities. To avoid living what I don’t like, usually in December I start a sort of hibernation. I stay at home, focused on my art and far from reality, indifferent to Christmas trees, lights and decorations. The truth is that I hate conventions. This is why about five years ago I started celebrating the new year in the night between December 30 and 31, instead of in the night between December 31 and January the first. It is funny and nice to party before everybody else and it is a good way to solve the problem of how to celebrate New Year's Eve.

                    Nachtgarm (Negator)

New Year's eve. I was never a real fan of all that firecracking, noise making and senseless drinking on new year's eve, but I always liked the opportunity of " a new start", so to speak. To me, new year's eve always has been not only the end of the current year, but a reminder that a new one's coming and with it a lot of new opportunities, which are just waiting to be taken.

So save your money by not wasting it on firecrackers or alcohol, gather some good friends and/or family around you and celebrate the coming of new year. And if you're a dog owner: get as far away as possible from all the firecrackers, noise'n'shit and take care of your pet!

                    Aurelius Lie (Darkest Horizon)

Same procedure as every year. I'm gonna spend new years eve lying drunk on some restroom floor and when I wake up I'm gonna ask a worried friend what year it is. If I made it to 2015, then some pretty epic Melodic Death is gonna await you guys.

                    Nikos Melissourgos (Suicidal Angels)

The greatest New Year's Eve celebration? Really hard to say or to pick out which one was the best. I can remember being out with friends and returning home next day in the afternoon, totally fucked up, I can remember casino nights, I can also remember strippers nights, or even home nights with friends, eating, drinking and having an absolutely fucking amazing time.

It's always a very special night and most of the times is really unexpected what will really happen. Personally, I never plan something specific. I just let the night flow, on the roll...who knows how will it end up!

                    Matthieu Van Der Brande (Herfst)

Probably the New's Year's party I will never forget took place in the Unholy Year 2007, when the animals still were able to speak.(Yes, I am old). We went, with a bunch of metalheads, all dressed up in chique suits, to a rather commercial, mainstream party, where we astonished the organisation by the amount of drinks we were able to send down our stomach. When the night almost came to an end, and all of us were still alive - although not so able to walk perfectly right- the DJ's decided to reward us and started playing Metallica, Black Sabbath and more well known metal songs. By that time, the organisation did take out the broomsticks to start cleaning up, which we claimed to cast our air guitar skills on, the most of us in bare chest, since those suits had become too hot while headbanging.

This year I'm celebrating in Australia, where it's summer by this time. A total differernt experience, to which I'm looking forward like Hell! Vseh s novom godom! And keep the Flame forever burning!

                    Marek Smerda (Cradle Of Filth)

Ok, here is my wish how to spend new years eve: kind of bizzare one but.....i have allways been into the crazy things .... so if possible i would like to travel to the past via time machine and then pick up Grace Kelly to spend a New Years Eve with me on USS Enterprise space ship.

                    Aðalbjörn Tryggvason (Solstafir)

Well after being a party animal for years, new years eve was always a disappointment, sometimes i'd be crawling home around 11 am or something after searching for the ultimate party. More of a hang with friends at home and then go the local bar type of guy. But now i dont do that anymore, so now i dont know what to do, maybe give my mom a happy new year kiss, and then maybe watch a movie with a certain girl. And not being sick in bed for 4 days after ;)

                    Dolk (Kampfar)

Ever since I was a kid a had strong connections to the Nordic folklore. Much thanks to my grandmother that was a story history teller. In my youth years we actually had some gatherings during Chritsmas time too. Where we practiced some of the old ways. We had a celebration that had nothing to do with the now well known Christmas and new year celebration. We had a "blot" and different rituals actually back then. Since I have always lived on the country side there was much more easy to perform this kind of stuff and to hide if I can put it that way. There was a much wilder side of me back then. But the roots are still there.

These days I must admit that its all about family and my closest friends. Even though its really important for me to still bring and tell about our Nordic roots and history to my children. They should of course be free induviduals. But its nevertheless important to know about history and roots. It must be up to themselves what to do and feel about this of course. But they will learn about history at least. I like to see this as my biggest job these days. So why not do this job here too. Here is some Nordic new year folklore for you:

New Year's Eve was celebrated like to get a good and eventful year . According to folk belief you had to make sure that it was not thirteen at the table - it would provide an unlucky year. Nor should it be cleaned off the table , but leave it til the next morning. This evening and night one could also find out who would be the one selfsame spouse and in which house they were staying . If you stared at the water in a water bucket, would a face emerge, but it was a little harder to get seen the house . Then you have to pour egg white in a cup of water, which was put in front of a mirror all night. The morning after the house would be visible in the mirror.

Was the weather cold and wet the last day of the year , would also be July weather so . Was it the least and well , one would get a nice July. Many stars in the sky New Year night should be a good "multeår" (berries Year) , according to folklore .

This night was also , according to popular belief , the only chance a year to learn to play the fiddle of the waterfall halter or "Fossegrimmen" and swap to his fiddle . In exchange , he would have a sacrificial animal - a lamb , "a spekelår or a bog" (Meat) - that would be set by the mill at the falls , and just at midnight came waterfall halter "Fossegrimmen" and prey. The fiddle got exactly the same quality as the meat that was given away . If the meat was bad, would fiddle also play badly. The fatter the food was , the better fiddler it was . It tells many stories about that waterfall halter could be dissatisfied and revenge . In some cases, he learned just away to play, but not to vote fiddle , which created major problems.

Sascha Vino (DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT)

On new years’ eve we like to have good food and drinks in a familiar location with friends or family and in the best case both. Afterwards I like to stay where I am and celebrate the new year with the people i love. My new years’ eve this year is going to be in Budapest, as I’m visiting my girlfriends family right after christmas with her. So until now i always celebrated new years’ with my russian family and always had the best russian dishes. I’m excited about what will be served on a hungarian new years’ family dinner. Thank you heavymusic.ru and s novym godom to you and everyone reading this.

                    Jontho Panthera (Ragnarok)

My way of celebrating new year is to eat and drink with my family before I move into the new year on a party! I also have sometime on my own laying plans for next year and how to reach my next goals in life! Rock on!!

                    Sven De Caluwe (Aborted)

As far as New Years goes, this has been a vastly different experience throughout the years for me. Back in the day I would go out to huge parties and get really fucked up with all my friends, once I moved to Israel well, nothing really happened since they don't celebrate X-mas or NY over there. So sadly that's a custom that has past me by for quite a few years. This year is the first year that I am back in Europe so I am making plans to go party with some friends perhaps in Germany, who knows! Pretty excited about it. Some of us are just spending it with family, Mendel is going with his girlfriend to some crazy big ass party in Holland. JB will be exorcising hipsters in Groningen. 2014 has been great for Aborted, bring on 2015!

                    Bram Van Cauter (Herfst)

In the past it meant getting near stabbed by my crazy borderline ex; getting too drunk to articulate cohesive sentences and/or stumbling home in a fit of existential despair in the snow, hanging on to vehicles and whatever might cross my path. This year however I have been cooking all day, my new place smells like slowly stewed rabbit with prunes and brown beer and a hot Slovenian redhead just finished decorating my gargantuous Christmas tree. I know this answer doesn’t sound very rock and roll, but I leave the decadent partying for the Summertime and my sporadic ventures into the outside world. Winter for me means staying inside with a nice hot Irish coffee/espresso and songwriting, watching true crime documentaries or catching up on my horror movie fetish.

This being said we wish you all a fantastic Christmas, and may 2015 be a killer one. We’ll be recording in January/February, then it’s off to Dan Swanö (Unisound SWE) for mixing and mastering & then we’ll will hit as many stages as possible.

Stay tuned & join the dea†hcul†!

                    Seregor (Carach Angren)

                    Hello everyone! This is Seregor from Carach Angren. I wish all of you out there a good and healthy new year. This is probably my most epic new year moment with the band;

In the beginning of Carach Angren we decided to buy lot's of booze and get drunk in our rehearsal-room (old caravan) On exactly twelve o'clock we should start our session and use our metal instead of fireworks.

Unfortunately it didn't happen because of our families/relations. But maybe one day it will. It's still a great idea to start the year in the name of music.

                    Adam Atf Sinner Buszko

Very best New Year's wishes to all in the HATE legion! I hope every one of you have hellish party and great year 2015! I wish you would join our CRUSADE – the new opus is coming only in January/February! Best greetings!

Lindsay Schoolcraft (Cradle Of Filth / Schoolcraft)

I honestly feel there is never a defining date you need to start your life or finish a project. But on New Years it is definitely a day to reflect back on all you had done that year. A day to remember all the good memories and those experiences you learned from. Then of course there is time for a drink and a then a reason to get excited for the year to come. Whether I am out at a bar or inside a home with good friends I always enjoy ringing in the New Years.
